Linda Mah is an author and elementary school teacher living in British Columbia. She has a Masters of Education and a Bachelor of Education degree in Special Education. She has taught for over 35 years and loves being creative in her lessons to inspire students to learn. The kids know her as Grumpy’s mom.
Grumpy is a Goffin’s cockatoo and was adopted in 1988. He is the oldest “child” in the family. His youthful appearance is deceiving because Grumpy does not look a day over the age of 50. He is a confident parrot and his character is always making the family laugh. Grumpy wants readers to discover that birds have feelings and they too can get into trouble just like kids.
Together, Grumpy and Linda volunteer for a parrot rescue and love visiting schools, daycares, camps and seniors’ homes. For a good laugh, stay tuned for Grumpy’s first book, Uh-Oh! Trouble at School, coming soon!
Through the years...
Fun facts about Linda!
I was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan – a town of approximately 5000 people. My family moved to Vancouver when I was in Grade 7.
My parents are immigrants from China. They were young adults when they came and did not speak English.
Along with Grumpy, I live with my husband. We have two adult children and another tiny bird named Jak Jak, a two year old parrotlet adopted in 2023.
I belong to a dragon boat team. I love to paddle but don’t enjoy getting frozen fingers during the frigid months of the year!
A relaxing day for me would be to spend time in the garden - pulling weeds. It’s so satisfying filling my compost bin with unwanted plants.
